The Importance Of Drinking Water While Pregnant

The Importance Of Drinking Water While Pregnant

By Cody Barnes |

As you may remember or currently are experiencing pregnant women crave a variety of foods and drinks. Hopefully, water is one of those cravings, as it is super important for not only your baby’s but also your own well-being.

Just as important as drinking water is also making sure the water you’re drinking is pure. Yes, believe it or not, it's not just a fad to drink bottled water and certain brands for that matter. Doing your research for the cleanest bottled water is extremely important to your health.

Here are the facts about drinking water while pregnant.

WATER MAKES A HEALTHY BABY

Did you know that without water in your body that prenatal vitamin would be doing absolutely nothing? Water is what dissolves those great nutrients and delivers them into your bloodstream to feed your baby. That means all the healthy food choices you are making also need water to fully reap the benefits. Basically, without drinking water, your baby would starve.

Furthermore, are you also aware that being dehydrated while your pregnant can lead to pregnancy complications & birth defects? Without drinking water, you could experience neural tube defects, low amniotic fluid, inadequate breast milk production, and even premature labor.

PREGNANT WOMEN NEED MORE WATER DAILY

Because you are drinking water for not only yourself but also for your baby, your daily water intake is higher than the average woman. Researchers say that a pregnant woman should be consuming 8 to 12 glasses of water per day.

The key is to spread this amount throughout your day, that way you don't feel so full if you try to drink a whole lot in one sitting. A helpful hint to drinking more water is to have a “special cup” that you fill with water at the start of your day and sip at it throughout your day.

You should be drinking so much water that you are having to use the restroom pretty frequently and your pee should be almost translucent. If you find yourself feeling thirsty, that is already the beginning stages to dehydration, so listen closely to your body.

WATER CAN PREVENT UTI’S AND OTHER ISSUES

Drinking water helps flush toxins and food waste in general out of your body. By drinking plenty of water you are helping your kidneys function properly, which in turn is preventing bacteria from growing inside of them and inside your bladder.

Water also helps your body with digesting solid waste. I know it sounds gross but pooping regularly is a very good thing, especially while being pregnant. This will help prevent hemorrhoids from forming, and we all know that is NOT a fun thing to go through.

WATER CAN HELP WITH OVERHEATING & HEADACHES

Water is stored in layers of our skin, and it is released when we sweat as a cooling mechanism for our bodies. When you are pregnant, your body temperature is extremely high as you have another human inside of you. So in order to keep your body cool, it needs to be hydrated with plenty of stored water. If your sweat is on overdrive, then you can rest assure that you are drinking enough water.

In addition, being that your body is hydrated, those terrible migraines, headaches, and feelings of exhaustion will be eliminated. So you can actually feel healthy and happy even on a hot summer day.
